The task manager has always served us well whenever we wanted to know what processes are taking up the most memory, besides Chrome. However, understanding how much memory is being used and how it's being allocated are entirely different things, and if you wish to know the latter, then you should turn to RAMMap because it has all the information you need. This lightweight application gives you a better understanding of how Windows allocates your computer's RAM. Not only will you know how much memory your programs are using, but you will also know what they are doing with it.

RAMMap is absolutely free, and you can download it and install it on your machine in less than a minute. It works on Windows Vista and all later versions, and it provides full support for both 32 and 64-bit variants. It doesn't ask for any special tools or services, and it doesn't have any impact on your computer's performance.

At a first glance, RAMMap looks like the Windows Task Manager. It presents processes, as well as other components, in different lists, on separate tabs. As previously mentioned, the software provides you with more detailed information on how your RAM is being used. For example, the first tab is where you can see how much of your memory is being actively used by applications, how much of it is ready to go if you open new ones, how much went to the paged pool and how much of it is actually free.

The software has a Processes tab, which is similar to that of the classic Task Manager, but it's focused on RAM usage. It can show you private, standby, modified, page table memory, as well as the total used RAM for each running application. Furthermore, you can find a list of priorities, If you wish to see the total amount of standby and repurposed memory the system will use for the highest and lowest-priority applications.

Apart from applying a filter here and there, and clearing or refreshing a list, there are no other interactions to have with the application. Its purpose is to give you information about your RAM usage, and it certainly excels at that. The software is capable of gathering all the information in about a second, so you won't have to run any scanning jobs and wait for the results.

Knowing how much memory your system is using is one thing, but if you really want to know how your RAM is being used, RAMMap can tell you all you need to know.

Pros

The software can show you how your memory is being used. It provides all the numbers you need for individual applications. The software is lightweight, and you can have it up and running in no time.

Cons

There are no obvious drawbacks to address.
